Just this morning, I was walking Nelly down the road and met up with the mother of one of my son's classmates--so they're on this road too! Karma, good luck, whatever you want to call it.

She had one of the most interesting dogs I'd ever seen--a Karelian bear dog. That was a first for me. Looked like a cross between a border collie and a Spitz. I'm happy to report she did not buy this dog from a breeder, she got it through rescue. I'm very unhappy to report that this dog spent the first five months of her life in a crate.

What despair we people can bring. And what kindness.Melissa Holbrook Piersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15617752678155038816noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8333594380363882958.post-60966216175692666162008-07-26T19:25:00.000-07:002008-07-26T19:25:00.000-07:00Thanks, Melissa. Keep me posted...

I'll write again from the ridge!

Catherine

PS An old writer/illustrator friend bought the little house across the street that I told you about. I'm glad he will be there, starting his new life, too. Dot would be pleased with his presence there, as am I (not that I have any say in such things! it just "feels" good...)Catherinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11361090241108323002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8333594380363882958.post-28522575450322339302008-07-24T18:54:00.000-07:002008-07-24T18:54:00.000-07:00Trust me, Catherine, I know you (even if I don't k...Trust me, Catherine, I know you (even if I don't know you, if you know what I mean!!). You've never done anything that bad to your kids. How do I know? Because a true narcissist would never even think to worry about anything they've done to their children. (I've been told I need to read--and maybe you do too--an essay by Winnicott called "The Good Enough Mother." Or something like that.)

Congratulations on the house sale! When people told me I should be happy about having sold, well, you know what I thought. It's bittersweet at best. Then again, the best *is* the bittersweet. It's the most like life.

Good luck in this momentous passage.Melissa Holbrook Piersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15617752678155038816noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8333594380363882958.post-49443144462169228052008-07-24T16:15:00.000-07:002008-07-24T16:15:00.000-07:00That book sounds unbearably depressing. I would be reminded of every bad thing I have ever done or said to my children, even if never as extreme.

I am reading books by others and not working on my own, either. Too much move stress (we have a buyer--yeah--and today was the inspection).

Go easy on yourself right now. Pamper, read, sleep when you can. Day by day.

Thinking about you,

CatherineCatherinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11361090241108323002noreply@blogger.com
