But we're not allowed to pack PB&J to school anymore.

There are lots of theories about the increase in food allergies. None of them speak well about us.

I wonder if the half of all Americans who *don't* have a real allergy now wish they did--it at least puts a name on free-floating danger, and makes one feel special into the bargain!--and that's why everyone and her sister is now off wheat.Melissa Holbrook Piersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15617752678155038816noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8333594380363882958.post-78014510413700192352011-04-20T10:25:40.456-07:002011-04-20T10:25:40.456-07:00Nuts! I don't remember anyone having problems with them when I was a kid, but nowadays it seems like every other kid is allergic to peanuts.

And the warnings abound! Dairy Queen greets you at the front door with a ominous warning that some of their food items (gasp!) "may have come into contact with...peanuts."

A few years ago, my daughter gave a neighbor girl some candy that contained peanuts; her horrified mother came by later to tell me that she had to monitor her all day for a possible reaction. I checked with her the next day. Nothing happened.Kentnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8333594380363882958.post-9139749911904355102011-04-19T17:00:14.580-07:002011-04-19T17:00:14.580-07:00Melissa,

Of course, none of us wants to admit that anything we do is the result of anything other than free will and considered decision. So we don't.

I knew I was walking into a minefield with this one. Stupidly, thoughtlessly, brazenly forward I marched. I don't know where my unintentional biases lay, but I'm waiting to find out.Melissa Holbrook Piersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15617752678155038816noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8333594380363882958.post-74779008036347966822011-04-16T15:11:05.343-07:002011-04-16T15:11:05.343-07:00How little it takes to form our lifelong prejudice...How little it takes to form our lifelong prejudices?bill ghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14883876862264792117noreply@blogger.com
